Small Business Consulting: Why I love it so Much

Local Internet Marketing and Small Business Consulting became a passion of mine. This past October three of our local businesses closed down and I found myself wondering why.  They were all great places with loyal clientele. It got me wondering what kind of marketing they had been doing and why it had failed. Then by chance I met the head of our local merchant group at a Chamber Civic Organization Meeting and we started talking about how local companies are not up to speed on New Media let alone implement to greatly increase their ROI across their marketing efforts.

To make a long story short this old noggin of mine started to obsess about one thing and one thing only: How could I use my internet marketing skills to help the businesses in my hometown not only stay in business but soar above their competitors!

  • First I owe all of you an apology for ignoring this site, and therefore you, since October!
  • Secondly, I have removed a lot pages and posts from the site because the content contained courses and products that I had been recommending. I did this because I have not had the chance to evaluate them recently and I am not comfortable recommended a course/product that I don’t keep up with.
  • I will  be evaluating new courses and products soon. As a matter of fact, a good friend just asked me to evaluate two different weight loss programs and I promised I would!

Work Smart Not Hard: Use an Auto Responder for List Building

Regardless of whether you are running an affiliate marketing business or not you will hear everyone talking about ‘building your list’.  This done is done by targeting an e-mail list of potential customers or prospects who are interested in the product or service you are offering. This way, you can work smart instead of working hard.  The most efficient way to build a list is to develop a squeeze page.

You may not know what a squeeze page is yet so let me describe it briefly for you and why you want to use one to help grow your affiliate marketing business.  A Squeeze Page is the page were you send your prospects so you can capture their email address. When they willingly give you this it is referred to as ‘opting-in’. Now of course they are not going to do this for nothing so you need to provide what we call an ‘ethical bribe’.  This often comes in the form of newsletter or free E-book.

To start the list building process one of the first things you should do is is sign up with an auto-responder service.  If you haven’t heard of this before it is exactly like it sounds. You set up a bunch of responses that will be sent automatically to your prospect.  The auto responder company collects the names and email addresses for you in the form of a list.  You can then use this list to market directly to. One additional feature an auto responder is that it allows those on your e-mail list to ‘opt-out’ if they don’t want to receive email from you anymore. This is just as important because you protect yourself from possible spam complaints.

There are two types of auto responder to achieve list building. You can use a paid service such as Aweber for a small monthly fee or you can host it yourself. .  If you are just starting out and want to keep costs to a minimum you can choose the later with the help of plug-ins. One of the easiest is Auto responder Plugin for WordPress. It is easily accessed in the WordPress dashboard.

So, in summary, building your list is one of the smartest ways to also build your affiliate marketing business.  Remember that instead of constantly working to get new prospects you can market directly to existing targeted prospects that you know are already interested in your niche. I personally use Aweber and consider this to be the “the smart way” not the “hard way” – but the decision is yours! Just be sure to use one or the other auto responder options ASAP so you can grow your affiliate marketing business today!
